Alchemist, Clapham and Wandworth’s newest cocktail bar, restaurant and club at 225 St Johns Hill will officially launch on Fri/Sat 19th & 20th May with a VIP party not to be missed. Combining all the elements that make a great venue, Alchemist will boast superb cocktails, sophisticated music and excellent food in a stunning Rococo interior. With a 2.30am licence on Fridays and Saturdays and Midnight the rest of the week and a great location minutes from Clapham Junction and Northcote Road, Alchemist is sure to quickly become a favourite with the Clapham cognoscenti.
Formerly the Common Room, the building has been completely redesigned to create a funky, contemporary space. The interior nods to times past, with gold wallpaper decorated with dramatic purple flowers and swirl patterns especially commissioned by award-winning interior designer Sandra Field. Contemporary sofas and chairs are designed by Brixton furniture company Bleu, whilst multi-coloured changing LED lighting and low tables will help set the tone for the evening, with subtly changing hues to create a different atmosphere each time. The space is cleverly arranged into a dance area where DJs will crank it up later in the night and a separate seated area for relaxed drinking. Key features such as backlit bars and ever-changing art installations complete the contemporary feel.
A huge landscaped garden at the back allows fabulous summertime al fresco drinking and dining for a continental vibe. Over the summer expect Italian barbeques with a selection of grilled fish, lobster and meats on Saturday and Sunday afternoons until late.
Mouthwatering cocktails are guaranteed to be a hit with creations by Andrea Fiorenza from Nectar and South American mixologist Marco Saldana. Creating something unique, Alchemist will focus on original cocktails form the 1930s, cocktails with unusual ingredients including Guarana and Ginseng, and a range of Marco’s favourite Brazilian and Mexican fruit mixes. Long forgotten classics like Gin Fizzes & Slings will be brought back to life, amazing Japanese Choya ginseng liqueur will feature in an exotic selection, whilst Marco promises to make the best Batidas and Caipirinhas in London. Our mixologists cannot promise to create the elixir of youth but they do guarantee potions with pizzazz. The wide range of cocktails starts at £6.00, and includes the signature Alchemist Elixir (Stolichnaya, coconut rum, coconut and edible gold flakes); Choy of Life (Choya, fruit juices, fresh grated Ginseng) and of course Marco’s Batidas (Cachaca, combined with fresh juices including passion fruit, cashew or coconut).
Alchemist features a rustic Italian grazing menu by Vito de Girolamo featuring mini pizzas, calzones and bruschettas alongside antipasti and grazing plates perfect for sharing. Prices start at £5. Vito was trained in Brindisi at the legendary Romanelli’s before coming to England where he was he was the founding chef at Eco, Clapham’s hugely successful pizza emporium. On Sundays Vito promises the finest Sunday roasts with more than a bit of Italian flair.
Aimed at a sophisticated 20-30 something crowd, the musical mix is sexy but fun. Weekend highlights are Friday night’s Alchemy with resident DJ Joe Egg of Negligee fame providing a sound track of favourites from the 80s and 90s with some classic r'n'b thrown in. On Saturdays, Popscene features resident DJ Scary Mary spinning retro disco delights and car boot classics. With a super 2.30am late licence Friday and Saturday you know this place will be rocking. Weekdays feature Lambasa on Thursdays with Brazilian funk, Latin soul, baddass bossas and stomping Latin club classics bought to you by House Arrest. On Sundays Mellow features intelligent hip-hop, r'n'b, soul and funk and is brought to you by DJ Romeo (Noah's Ark). Monday to Wednesday expect a chilled out vibe from our resident DJs.
